Pitching Mechanics Don't Have to Be Complicated

Develop a Powerful Pitching Delivery with the 5 Power Moves in This Free Guide

So in yesterday’s post I touched on something that might seem counter-intuitive…

If you missed it you can find it here: Fixing Velocity Leaks in Your Pitching Motion

The idea that sometimes the BEST time to work on improving your mechanics and unlocking velocity in your pitching motion is actually DURING the season…

Which kinda goes against the approach I typically take with pitchers.

Or at least, one might thing.

See, normally I’m big on helping pitchers get away from a nasty tendency to OVER-THINK their mechanics…

Because once you put your toe to the rubber and lock in on your target… If you’re thinking about your pitching motion at ALL – “Where does my leg need to be? What’s my arm slot? How do I need to finish?” – you’re DONE.

So lemme ‘splain 🙂

There is a difference between working on your mechanics IN-SEASON

And thinking about your mechanics IN-GAME…

In-season, you have a great opportunity between pitching outings to:

  • Work on your craft
  • Hone your mechanics
  • And LEARN from your last performance and identify the areas you need to improve.

That’s how you get BETTER.

Putting in the work, getting the reps, putting in the work, getting in the reps (yes, I’m repeating myself)…

So come game time, you just play…

So YES, it is possible (and easy) to work on your mechanics during the season…

Address major FLAWS…

And make meaningful progress that can help you find an extra 3-4 MPHs while also improving your overall command and control.

I know this because I’ve seen this… Both with the pitchers I’ve worked with and with myself back in my early days.

The summer after my Junior year at Northwestern, I had the great fortune to realize a boyhood dream by pitching in the Cape Cod Baseball League…

I also had the great fortune to have a wonderful pitching coach…

Who took me under his wing and pointed out the #1 area in my mechanics where I was leaking power….

The one area that would have the biggest impact on my command and control.

And over the course of that summer…

(One of the most memorable, unbelievable summers of my life)

…Not only did I get to play with and compete against some of the absolute best baseball players in the country…

I underwent the most amazing pitching transformations I could have imagined.

  • Picking up a new strikeout pitch
  • Improving my Command & Control BIG TIME
  • And picking up a few ticks on my fastball

A while back I talked about this in a webinar… So rather than making this post longer than it already is, I’m including an excerpt below where I tell you all about it.

Sometimes the gap between where you are right now and where you want to be isn’t as big as it seems…

If you’d like to fix some Velocity Leaks in your own pitching delivery, I recently opened up a new coaching program… It’s specifically for serious high school pitchers looking to add 3-4 MPHs and improve overall command over the next 60-90 days to gear up for college camp/showcase season.

If you’ve ever been told by college coaches that they like what they see, but you just need a little extra velocity… this 1×1 Remote Coaching program might be a fit.
